Who are we?
Countryman’s Community Pub Society Limited is a community benefit society, registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under registration number 8682 since July 2021. Our registered address is Sunny Cottage, South View, Hunton, DL8 1QH.
We are bound by a set of rules, and in our case, this is a set of model rules devised by the Plunkett Foundation. You can read more about the Plunkett Foundation here.
A society such as ours has Members, a Management Committee (or ‘Steering Group’) and a Secretary. The official term for a member is:
“Membership is the means by which the Society is owned by the community. Membership provides Members with access to information, a voice in the Society, and the opportunity to be elected to a representative role in its governance.”
Our Vision and Aims
Our vision is to secure The Countryman’s Inn as a thriving community-owned enterprise, serving the village and the community as both a pub and a broader community asset.
Our aim is to secure The Countryman’s Inn as a community owned asset by purchasing the pub through the Countryman’s Community Pub Society – a registered Community Benefit Society.
We will operate the pub through a tenancy model, with our appointed tenant running the pub as a sustainable and growing business, serving a full range of quality brewed beers from local breweries. We will appoint a tenant who is able to serve quality, locally sourced food from the pub kitchen.
The Countryman’s Inn will continue to serve as a social hub for the village and as a meeting place where all are welcome.
We will work with our tenant to provide additional community amenities and services, to be developed in collaboration with the society.
And lastly, we will make good use of the extensive beer garden to the back of the pub.
We plan to purchase The Countryman’s Inn with funds raised through community share investment, complemented by additional grant funding from various local and national schemes.
